Paul G. Stracci
Partner

State and Federal CRIMINAL DEFENSE
at trial, appellate, and post-conviction levels

Paul Stracci is a uniquely experienced criminal trial attorney.  Known for his passion, hard work, and trial skills, Paul Stracci has had remarkable success in the courtroom.  He successfully tried his first murder case, resulting in an acquittal on all charges, a mere ten months out of law school.  Since that time, he has defended clients from all walks of life who have been charged with various criminal offenses, ranging from misdemeanors to all types of felony and death penalty offenses.  In recognition of his hard work and accomplishments, Cohen & Thiros, one of Lake County’s oldest and most highly regarded criminal defense firms named him partner and changed the firm’s name to Thiros & Stracci.

Mr. Stracci often represents clients in complex and high-profile criminal cases.  He has been admitted to practice in all Indiana courts as well as in various State and Federal courts across the country, including the United States Supreme Court.

Mr. Stracci has had particular success in defending high-profile clients charged with drunk driving offenses.  As a long-time member of the National College for Drunk Driving Defense, Mr. Stracci has successfully completed numerous comprehensive drunk driving courses at Harvard Law School. In addition, he has completed the NHTSA Standardized Field Sobriety Testing Practitioner’s Course and the 12 Step Drug

Recognition Expert Mini-Course. His training and experience in defending drunk driving cases has enabled him to successfully challenge breath tests and blood draws for intoxication. He has also been successful in challenging the constitutionality of drunk driving roadblocks.

Mr. Stracci defends forensic-intensive criminal cases, including cases involving allegations of pediatric head trauma and shaken baby syndrome, fingerprints, ballistics and firearms identification, handwriting exemplars, hair and fiber analysis, eyewitness identifications, origin and cause of fire determinations, voice stress analysis, forensic computer examinations, sexual assault cases with scientific and medical evidence, and cases involving DNA evidence.

In addition, Mr. Stracci often represents clients charged in complex federal multi-defendant drug conspiracy, firearm, and criminal gang activity cases, most of which involve extensive amounts of audio and visual surveillance, cell phone tracing and recordings, and global position tracking. He also defends federal child pornography and sex cases, most of which involve computer forensic examinations, and large-scale white-collar fraud and billing fraud cases, including medicaid and medicare billing, political corruption and honest services, and identity fraud cases.

The value of different skill sets and perspectives when evaluating a case cannot be overstated, it is for that reason Mr. Stracci works with all the attorneys in his office as a team and is thus able to utilize their combined legal knowledge and courtroom experience to help each client. His combined approach is unique as typically law firms, no matter the size, assign one attorney to represent each client.  However, at Thiros & Stracci, since the attorneys work on cases together, each adding their own specialized knowledge and experience, the law firm is able to provide each client with the best possible resolution.
